Massive Deck + Gas Grill
Step outside and let the mountain views do what they do best: slow you down. Fire up the gas grill, set your plate down, and stay out until the air turns crisp and the sky starts to deepen.
Coffee on the deck, mountains all around, and nowhere you have to be.
We absolutely loved our stay at The Big Mack! The cabin was the perfect place to enjoy our vacation, and the breathtaking views were the high point for us all.
You start the morning with coffee in hand and nothing but Colorado sky and mountain views in front of you. The house feels easy to settle into—quiet corners when you want them, and shared spaces that naturally pull everyone together after a day outside.
Lake County sets the pace: lace up for a hike, chase the next cast on the water, or get out for standup paddle boarding—then return to a hot meal made in a fully equipped kitchen. You’ll have the tools to cook the way you like (stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, and cooking utensils), so dinner can be as simple as a quick reheat or as drawn-out as a full spread.
When the sun drops, you’ll feel the house shift into “stay in” mode. The game room brings everyone back together, while high-quality beds make it easy to truly recover for tomorrow. And with Starlink WiFi plus a dedicated workspace, you can check in when you need to—without giving up the feeling of being away.
Step outside and let the mountain views do what they do best: slow you down. Fire up the gas grill, set your plate down, and stay out until the air turns crisp and the sky starts to deepen.
After the day’s hike or time on the water, you don’t have to call it early. Head into the game room, pick your matchup, and keep the energy going—no driving, no plans, just one more round.
This is the kind of kitchen that invites you to cook: prep space, the essential appliances, and a dishwasher waiting at the end. Make breakfast before you head out, then come back to an easy, satisfying dinner.
The Big Mack is located in Lake County, Colorado—high in the Rockies near Leadville, with a classic mountain-town feel and quick access to alpine lakes, trailheads, and scenic drives. Expect crisp nights, big views, and a laid-back atmosphere where the pace is slower and the outdoors is the main attraction. Services can be more spread out than in larger resort towns, so it’s a good idea to plan grocery stops and fuel ahead of longer day trips.
Lake County is accessible via US-24 (through Leadville) and is within day-trip range of Denver and Colorado Springs. In winter, allow extra time for snow-packed roads and changing weather, especially over higher passes. If you’re flying in, the closest major airport is Denver International Airport (DEN); from there, plan on a mountain drive to Lake County. Cell service can be spotty in some mountain corridors—download maps before you go.
Parking is typically easiest with a personal vehicle. Plan for winter conditions: snow tires or AWD/4WD is strongly recommended during snowy months, and carrying chains can be helpful depending on current road advisories. Clear snow from your vehicle before driving and be mindful of plow access.
Guests consistently mention breathtaking lake-and-mountain views and a peaceful setting, often enjoyed from the large deck/patio with pergola for morning coffee, sunsets, and stargazing. Many note the home is very clean, cozy, and well maintained, with comfortable beds (including king rooms) and a kid-friendly bunk area. Several highlight a well-stocked, organized kitchen and ample space for families or groups. Check-in feels straightforward, and hosts are described as welcoming, responsive, and helpful. Location is praised for easy lake access and proximity to hiking, Leadville, Buena Vista, and Aspen.

Having a cabin right next to a lake and mountains can’t be beat! We also appreciated all the amenities the cabin had to offer as well as how the hosts were…”
“What a fabulous stay! The views are absolutely amazing and we loved how easy it was to get to the lakes. It was so quiet and peaceful. Loved the patio and pergola the most!”
“Our trip was amazing. The photos are beautiful but truly do not do the views justice. Reading on the deck every morning with coffee and fishing in the lake and rivers and hiking was the absolute best and most relaxing trip ever. The train ride in Leadville was incredible as well. We didn’t want to leave and can’t wait to go back!!”
“Beautiful location.”
